an energy-guzzler

Consuming a specified resource in a way that is wasteful and unnecessary.
Example: Private households are among the biggest energy guzzlers, with heating accounting for by far the biggest share.

noun
a lawsuit filed or defended by an individual acting on behalf of a group.
Example: The local people are taking steps toward a class action, but it is not before the courts.

noun
At common law, damages are a remedy in the form of a monetary award to be paid to a claimant as compensation for loss or injury.
Example: Liability is the obligation to repair damages caused to others.

(of a species) seriously at risk of extinction
Example: New specimens of primates rarely occur in museums due to export regulations for ENDANGERED species.

green washing
noun
involves making an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing that a company's products are environmentally friendly
Example: The CMA's action is a part of an ongoing investigation on the possibility of 'green washing' present products sustainable when it is not.

greenhouse gas
noun
a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation.
Example: When it becomes oxidised as CO 2 it becomes a GREENHOUSE GAS adding to the global warming effect.

heat wave
noun
a prolonged period of abnormally hot weather.
Example: According to BBC News, "The HEAT WAVE over last year's summer meant some of the welding could not be done, and over the previous winter it was so cold some work had to be halted." [BBC, (2004)]

a person who brings a case against another in a court of law.
Example: To make it meaningful, the PLAINTIFF had made up her mind to sue Stevenson, the manufacturer.

a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.
Example: This protest had an initially peaceful intent but ended in one of the worst RIOTs the capital city has seen in the last century.

Example: We strongly encourage leather suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of the SOURCING of bovines skins.

noun
avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.
Example: This would be supportive of a sustainable rural community, as it is focusing on the local economy by trying to use local resources and it is considering the environment by looking at SUSTAINABILITY and adaptability to the local environment.

to be committed to

If you're committed to something, you're pledged or obligated to do it.
Example: The doctor is committed to healing sick people.

legally responsible for causing damage or injury, so that you have to pay something or be punished.
Example: TA Instruments will not be held liable for shipping damage of any kind.

Example: They would be engaged in usual activities that relate to the stages of development process from developing design options up TO HAND OVER of the finished project.
